It is the 07th day of the 07th month of the year 07. The news reports three times the normal weddings this Saturday because it is such a lucky day. Las Vegas is booked for the same reason. Well we just couldn’t pass up this opportunity to try our collective luck. We have placed our fishing envoy, Jack, on the auspicious fishing charter boat, the “Carnivore” to try his luck at Halibut fishing in Cook Inlet on this triply lucky day. Midnight Sun
We are almost to the Arctic Circle. Not quite, but close enough we can “taste it.” The Arctic Circle and its companion the Antarctic Circle are the dotted lines on the map that mark the furthest from the pole you can get and still experience the phenomenon called “the midnight sun.”
The Wild Life
The best time to observe the “Wild Life” along the Alaska Highway is early morning. We made the effort this morning and were rolling by 7:30. During the day we crossed the summit of the Canadian Rockies at 4,250 feet. We pulled some nine percent grades, and although the highway was narrow and without shoulders we were able to drive on smooth paved roads with only an occasional rough spot, and these were always well marked. We have been cruising at about 50 mph in these mountains. Perhaps just a tad slower on the nine percent grades. Continue reading The Wild Life
Into Canada:
We have lots of relatives in Colville and Kettle Falls Washington. We stopped at Buena Vista where two of my aunts, Lindell and Shandon, live. I brought along my guitar and played music for over an hour. I had a wonderful time playing and I think everyone there enjoyed themselves. We then moved on to a campground in Kettle Falls and cousins Benny and Monty and his wife Marilyn dropped by for a visit. We met up with Judy’s sister, Sonja and Jack at the campground and we spent the evening planning our trip to Alaska. Continue reading Into Canada:
