How would you like to travel 140 miles on a half cup of gasoline and a big friendly dose of wind? We have just finished up a trip with several of our friends using a centuries old mode of transportation, sail power. We gathered up our flotilla at the city docks in front of the Columbia County court house in St. Helens, Oregon. The wind was right on the nose at 10 to 12 knots. (That’s miles to a sailor; however, you get a 12 percent bonus over land miles)

Sunshine
Sunshine! Glorious sunshine! Now we have figured out what we have been doing wrong. We have been on the wrong side of the Cascade Mountain Range.
Lemons:
Actually the full name of this blog is “The Great Lemon Meringue Pie Bake-off.” For the whole world to know, Saturday was my 66th birthday. Over the years my lovely wife, Judy, has been in the habit of creating my special favorite desert for me. A “Lemon Meringue Pie.” This year, perhaps in honor of the double six birthday, both my lovely wife, Judy, and my equally lovely daughter, Renee, created a lemon meringue pie to celebrate the day. Judy, to produce her classic recipe with the usual half dozen modifications to accommodate the locally available resources, and Renee reviewed her favorite cooking channel chef to create her masterpiece. Now is this a win-win situation or what?
East to West
If you go back and read our September 22, 2005 blog you will find out that we rode out to the West Quoddy Head Light House in Maine. I wrote this about it, “This cape is the most easterly point in the United States, and it has a very pretty red and white striped light house on it.”
Ride the Dragon:
Judy and I ride our homebuilt recumbent tandem bicycle just about where ever we go. On Monday we set out to ride from Gilroy to the outskirts of San Jose to have lunch with Glen and his family. We cut our time too short so with a few quick calls on the cell phone we arranged to meet everyone in Morgan Hill at the Morgan Hill Museum. The museum was closed but they had a nice garden with benches where we ate our lunch.
