Contest:

I am declaring a contest. This will be to celebrate the completion of Golanth, the Bronze Dragon. He is a recumbent tandem bicycle. We are daily getting him outfitted and ready for serious riding. I mounted a new bicycle computer on his stem today. And a new blindingly bright flashing tail-light on his butt. While we were downtown Portland today visiting my Neurologist for my Parkinsonism, we went over to the east side and ordered a new set of panniers custom built just for Golanth.
Guess what? That is the purpose of the contest. We are going to have a silhouette appliqué applied to each bag. You folks out there in the blogosphere are welcome to help us create a unique dragon shaped silhouette. Remember these are mythical (and fictional) beasts from Anne McCafferey’s “Dragon Riders of Pern” series. Here is a small photo of one of Anne and Todd McCaffrey’s book covers.

It will give you an idea what they might look like. Even from book to book these mythical creatures change shape and style, so let your imagination run rampant. They have four feet, enormous heads and a long tail. Their wings always look a lot like bat wings. From the artists’ renditions it is obvious that the only reason these creatures fly, much less carry their riders and at times extra passengers is that they have great telekinesis. That is they think they can fly so they fly. I can do that in my dreams but it is embarrassing when I wake Judy up clawing and trying to keep from falling out of bed. It is one of the side effects of the medications I am on.
Enter my contest by sending a photo of your design to my e-mail. Remember it has to work as a silhouette. If you win, your design will get hot knifed out of contrasting fabric and adorn one of our panniers. We can have up to two winners. We will show a photo of the completed project. They are being custom built by a small workshop on Hawthorn street in Portland. Also recognize that I am going to treat these as a gift to us. You can copyright if you want, but please assign me a license to use the image.
Deadline: Yes there has to be a deadline because I have to get the art work to my manufacturer within two weeks max, so the deadline will be Sunday June 9th.
Now for the rest of the news:
We are about to head for Washington and join members of our families on some outings at old haunts. For the Cook corner of my family we are going to Colville WA in Stevens County. We did this once before and it was great fun. Then we are going to Twin Lakes, Ferry County where Judy’s folks used to hang out. We will be back in Portland toward the end of June and then we will return to Fort Yamhill and become camp hosts again for the months of July and August. If you come over to the Spirit Mountain Casino, west of Salem we would be delighted to see you. Our park is a day use park but the casino has RV camping, and it is only a couple miles from us.
