Painting Party:

This week has been perfect for a painting party. Each day when the temperature soared above 50 degrees, Judy, Glen and I spent time disassembling, wire brushing, sanding and priming the frame of the new tandem bicycle. The weather stayed clear and sunny all week. Thursday Judy and I moved the coach to the street beside the Wings of History Museum in San Martin. Whenever we are in town I volunteer at the museum. This week I was helping with the assembly of a Curtis OX-5 airplane engine first built in 1910.

Here it is Saturday at the museum. The museum is open for visitors but none of the restoration crews work the weekend. Glen and I took advantage of the lull in work to use the museum’s paint booth. Glen handled the spray gun and I mixed paint and shuffled the frame and 13 assorted sub assemblies around the paint booth. We put on a total of three coats of metallic paint I am calling Dragon Skin Bronze. Yes I am continuing with the Dragon Riders of Pern motif from Ann McCaffrey. When the bicycle is all back together and all of the assorted pedals, shifters, idlers, levers, chains and cables have been installed I will reveal the name we have chosen. If you cruise on over to our blog you can see the motley paint crew at work today.

It looks like Monday or Tuesday we will start our trek south. First we will go to Lake Havasu City and then to Blythe to attend a Bluegrass festival. By the way we traveled 7,024 miles and moved 90 times this last year. That almost meets the 100 moves of 2011, but nothing like the 12,137 miles we traveled going to Oshkosh. I won’t repeat the statistics. If you must know look back to January 7 2012. The bicycle and hiking mileages were 743 and 277. We are still kicking, but not quite as high these days.
Good bye from San Martin, where the rains have returned.
