I-5 South

We are headed for a Family Motor Coach Rally in Indeo California this week. As much as I boast that we take the slower senic route, today we made an exception and turned onto I-5 Southbound. We were cruising along watching the press of cars about us. Perhaps a half hour into our drive a pair of Alpine coaches just like ours merged into traffic just ahead of us. For an hour and a half we followed in their wake. They were going exactly the speed I prefer to go so we just tagged along.

Eventually we approached our intended exit to California Highway 46 over to Wasco. We expected to see them continue on toward LA. Instead they also exited just ahead of us and we followed them until they pulled of the highway for a break. Our interest was piqued, so I pulled up behind them and walked up to visit. It turned out that we had met Pat, one of the drivers, in Branson, Missouri last year. Both coaches are also headed to Indio, so we will visit more when we get there.

We are camping tonight at the Wasco Elks lodge and I took advantage of the warm afternoon to catch up on some repairs on the coach and trailer. I pounded out a rumple in the left trailer fender. We got that trying to exit a mall parking lot in Bakersfield. I also had to trim up one of my rear dual’s mud flaps and bolt it back on. I was too close to the wheel stop at last night’s campground and when the jacks lifted the coach to level it, it simply ripped the mud flap off.

Glen, Barb Patrick and Bryce joined us at San Luis Creek Campground on the McNeil Forbay Lake for some fishing. They weren’t very successful, but they did get their lines wet. They returned home at dark and we settled in for a very quiet night. This is one of our favorite campgrounds around California. We may not be back, however. They just doubled the price from $20 to $40. Our RV’ing friends may want to check the prices for California parks before they make a committment. The CA Parks web site shows that some of the parks charge over $50 a night now.

Catch you all later down the road.
