New Year:

Life is great, so how can I make New Year’s resolutions? Oh, sure I resolve to loose the five pounds I gained over Christmas, but now that we are riding and walking every day that will disappear soon enough.

When we got back to Austin, Arcturus, our motor-home was lonely and cold, but otherwise just fine. The shop trailer had a very obvious flat tire that we had to deal with before we could move. Well actually it would take two hours for it to leak down enough to be a problem, so we called and made an appointment at a Firestone store in the neighborhood. They removed a screw from the tire and patched it good as new. Then Judy had to back me out into traffic on Congress Street in downtown Austin Texas. Six lanes wide. On the way out of town we endured a couple thunder storms that cut loose with an inch or more of rain in about an hour. Everyone around us slowed to about 45 and we just kept plugging along. This same storm spawned some tornadoes in Louisiana yesterday. Today the rain is long gone and forgotten and we expect to see 75 degrees and lots of sunshine.

We have found a gem of a park here half way between Austin and San Antonio. It is a Corps of Engineers park on Canyon Lake. We also stayed here on the way into the area in mid December. It looks like it gets real busy in the summer. Especially considering that two major metropolitan areas are within an hour’s drive. This season it is perhaps 20% occupied. The spaces are huge, 65 or 70 ft long with an extra space for your car. It includes a covered table alongside the coach and electric and water. With our Golden Age pass it is $9 a day. Even at $18 it would be a bargain. We can ride five miles on just the roads within the park and the white tail deer are just everywhere. Canyon Lake is a man-made lake on the Guadalupe River here in Texas. It is quite large and has many, many arms and branches. All of the shores are lined with homes and I see lots of bass boats and sail boats in back yards.

Of course we have many photos from Christmas, below you will find a gratuitous display of photos of Georgia Ann. Three months old is a pretty special time.

From deep in the heart of Texas, we wish all you-all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Gary and Judy.
