It has been said; “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” To all of our friends back in the Pacific Northwest we can honestly say that we have begun that journey that will bring us to your corner of the world again. We didn’t get far, only about three miles to the neighboring town of San Martin, but it is a start.
Our Daughter-in-Law had a good checkup with her doctor today and we have exhausted our seven day limit at the Gilroy Elks Lodge again. Tomorrow we take on the traffic of Interstate 680 through the heart of the San Francisco East Bay Area. I am sure they will be glad to see us go and take our Oregon rains with us. We have lots of rain and gusty winds forecast for Tuesday all the way to the Napa area. Every morning we hear of more mud slides and closed highways.
Lest you get the wrong impression, the weather is dreadful for California. Every two or three days we get a really nice day. Today was one of those days. Those of us who live in the western half of Oregon and Washington accept a little rain every day as a mater of course. Here they expect seventy degree temperatures by now and a rain shower occasionally, perhaps once a week for half a day. This year their reservoirs are full to the brim, and at times they have been spilling water at near their maximum safe rate on a couple of the lakes. The hills are Oregon green and lush. The big ski resorts are ecstatic with record snow pack and the prospect of skiing until May.
We will see you when we get there. Meanwhile we’re humming “On the road again de doodle de de de on the road again .
