Yes it sounds like a paradox. We sold our house and we have moved into an RV and we travel full time now. Yet it is possible to come home.
We drove into St. Helens and parked our rig in the Bay Port Marina on Scappoose Bay. Many times we have launched our sailboat right here for a day or a weekend of sailing. Memories flood back to us. On Sunday we returned to our church, Plymouth Presbyterian Church, where we are still members. The people there are like our family. We inquired about the anthem the choir was singing, and sure enough it was one we had learned previously. Our choir robes were still hanging where we had left them a year ago. We were welcomed back into the choir and after a little practice were able to slide right back into our familiar rolls.
This brings us a very important lesson on life. It is the family and friends that we gather around us that makes a home. It is not the wood, nails, brick and mortar that make a home, it’s just a house. It’s not the tapestries, carpets, furniture and kitchen cabinets that enrich you. It is the friends and family that flow through your life. It’s the sharing and caring for each other that makes us rich and fulfilled. It is the community that makes a home.
Yes, we will continue our travels. Yes I will continue publishing my “Blog.” I have had many comments from our friends, and as long as you all are willing to read this drivel, I will keep writing it. This is how we can keep our friends with us. I love to hear your comments in the replies. We also like to keep up with what you all are doing too.
For the next couple of weeks we are helping our daughter and her husband, Neil, work on a rental house they purchased. We have the rig parked in the back yard, and let me tell you it was the toughest thing yet backing this monster down the alley to their house. It took and hour and two spotters to keep from taking out fences and trees.
Judy and I send all our love. Remember to love your neighbors – it’s important!
